Formally trained in documentary filmmaking at The New School, in my video works I seek to capture the idiosyncrasies and mundane details of lived experience that make us who we are. Although, my research as an academic primarily focuses on the types of prejudices and forms of discrimination that cisgender and transgender LGBQ experience, my documentary work, in contrast, highlights the joy and resilience of queer life, often mixing playful humor with social commentary to portray LGBQ individuals in their complexity.
My most recent documentary short, Purple Shoelaces, is a portrait of the Women's Division of the New York City Gay Basketball League (NYCGBL). The film premiered at the HBO Theatre in 2012 and has been shown nationally and internationally.
